Orlando Pirates supporters have a new darling in the goalkeeper Sipho Chaine. Sadly, everyone has been saying his surname wrongly.

Orlando Pirates followers will continue singing Sipho Chaine’s name for the rest of the week. The surname pronunciation has to change, though.

Following Saturday night’s event at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium, the Buccaneers lifted the 2023 MTN8 title after a 3-1 win on penalties over Sundowns.

The man of the night – Sipho Chaine – delivered heroics during the game and even better during the spot-kicks after the game ended goalless inside 90 minutes.

The Bloemfontein-born star made two key saves during the game before saving three penalties from experienced players such as Bongani Zungu, Junior Mendieta and Tebogo Mokoena.

SIPHO CHAINE ON HIS SURNAME

Soon after the game, SuperSport TV’s Phumlani Msibi sought Chaine for a quick chat about his surname.

While everyone had been saying “Tshayine,” the 26-year-old former Bloemfontein Celtic, Royal AM and Chippa United goalkeeper revealed that it is pronounced as “Chain,” the same way you pronounce the jewellery item on your neck.

It is unusual, like his Bloemfontein homeboy Lorch’s surname, but as far as chains, Sipho is a diamond one.
