FORMER ORLANDO PIRATES STAR RECALLS UNSPORTING BEHAVIOUR ON THE CONTINENT

As The South African reported this week, Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi shocked the continent after he bravely accused Tanzania’s Simba of treating his team ‘like animals’ last weekend.

According to this former star, Ncikazi’s claims are apparently part and parcel of playing CAF football as a traveling team. The dark tales are nothing new.

Following the Simba episode, Orlando Pirates legend Lane was not left surprised at all.

We also got treated roughly but luckily we had Williams Okpara [former Bucs goalkeeper from Nigeria] and he knew what the locals would do ahead of time,” Lane said in the latest issue of Soccer Laduma

“We had people knocking on our doors at 03:00 saying they were bringing us toilet papers when we had plenty of that ha, ha, ha.

“We’d get inside the bus and there would be all sorts of funny-looking things and smells, you know?”

“They scored as early as the second minute, and it took a while for us to settle into the game as our minds were still all over the place.

“Fortunately, Bruce Ramokadi got the equaliser for us late in the second half and we came back and beat them in Johannesburg,” Lane added.

IGESUND NAMES HIS BEST PLAYERS AT PIRATES

Staying with Bucs history, the club’s former PSL-winning coach Gordon Igesund recently revealed a list of some of the best players he coached at the Soweto giants.

Pirates became the league champions in the 2000/01 season, thanks to Igesund‘s coaching talent, wits, and experience. As they say, he could not do it without his players though. Read the full story here.
