Orlando Pirates star gets World Cup call-up

It’s almost World Cup time again. Bafana Bafana have failed to qualify again – but Orlando Pirates and the PSL could be represented.

It is clearly great times for Orlando Pirates. The Sea Robbers are enjoying MTN8 success and entertaining football. The club is now likely to watch one of their captains at the looming 2022 FIFA World Cup.

ORLANDO PIRATES VICE CAPTAIN GETS WORLD CUP CALL-UP

Ahead of his return from injury last week, Richard Ofori took the gloves to help the Soweto giants to the MTN8 crown.

The match took place a few hours after the 29-year-old was named in Ghana’s Preliminary FIFA World Cup squad.

The news was confirmed by the Ghana Football Association via social media on Friday, with the Pirates number one named alongside four other goalkeepers.

“Otto Addo has named a 55-man provisional list for the FIFA World Cup,” the GFA said.

“The list will be whittled down to twenty-six (26) for the tournament which is scheduled for Qatar from Nov 20 – Dec 18.”

Meanwhile, Pirates fans will now be crossing their fingers for Ofori to make the final cut before the Black Stars take the flight to Qatar.

Ghana have been drawn in Group H alongside the mighty Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.

BUCS HERO CRIES ON TV

In other updates, one of Pirates’ superstars shared tears of joy after lifting the MTN8 crown on Saturday night.

As The South African website reported on Saturday night, the Sea Robbers were crowned Wafa Wafa champions after a sublime free-kick from Monnapule Saleng in the 25th minute.

Bucs midfielder Timm delivered one of the best games of his career. He was duly awarded the Man of the Match before tears dropped down his cheeks. Read the full story here.
