‘We took R2 000 alcohol on credit at a tavern’ says Orlando Pirates’ former star

Oh no. This former Orlando Pirates midfielder has remembered his self-destructive days with Bennett Chenene in Alexandra.

Most Orlando Pirates fans will remember Bongani Cashibe for his touch that was rather good on the eye and if we’re honest, his distinctly large head.

Chatting in a reflective interview in the past week on TK Solutions TV, the retired 39-year-old admitted he used to take booze on credit at a tavern in Alex.

“There was a place in Alexandra, Bra Pat’s Tavern,” Cashibe said.

“That’s when I realised that I made it in life, [Bennett] Chenene and I had a bill.

“If we don’t have money, we’ll goto Bra Pat.

“We’d just say Bra Pat gives us alcohol for R2 000. We’d take alcohol home.

“It would be three bottles [spirits], savannahs and other things to put in the fridge for the fun times to begin,” he added.

GALLIVANTING AFTER A FEW DRINKS

To further confirm how footballers in Mzansi and across the world always have just too much free time on their hands, Cashibe added that he and Chenene would drive around in search of pleasure.

“We would enjoy Play Station, I was addicted to it but Chenene was not into it,” the former Orlando Pirates player said.

“We would drive to Pretoria. If not Pretoria, there was someone at UJ [University of Johannesburg].

“If not UJ, we would drive to Randburg, you know? We had branches [laughs].”
