Orlando Pirates are set to make changes to Josef Zinnbauer’a backroom staff ahead of the start of next season.

Veteran goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands is reported to have been earmarked as the club’s next goalkeeper coach on a permanent basis.

As things stand, Pirates don’t have a permanent goalkeeper coach following the departure of Jyri Nieminen some time last year.

And this has resulted in Pirates elevating Sandilands to the position of interim goalkeeper coach at the club.

But of course, Sandilands is still very much involved in the game, but with his contract set to expire in June, chances of him assuming the role of sharpening the goalkeepers have increased.

According to The Citizen, Sandilands is happy with the role he has been given by the club and the publication’s source believes this is the path the 35-year-old wanted to take after retirement.

“At the moment what I know is that everything is set for him (Sandilands) and he is happy to go into the path of being a goalkeeper coach. I think this is something he has always wanted and he is doing it so perfectly because he has a lot of experience, said the source.

Sandilands arrived at Pirates from Mamelodi Sundowns four seasons ago as an already experienced goalkeeper.

And while he has been getting some game time in recent weeks due to Richard Ofori’s absence, Zinnbauer is most likely to bring back the Ghana international as his No.1 as soon as he’s recovered from injury.

Furthermore, the reported acquisition of King Ndlovu from Black Leopards could well mean Pirates are preparing for life after Sandilands.
