Orlando Pirates midfielder Linda Mntambo was left to lament his team’s profligacy in front of goal as they yet again let points slip as they drew 1-1 with Royal AM on Thursday evening.

Mntambo managed to snatch an equaliser for Orlando Pirates after Thwihli Thwahla gave Royal AM the lead but he felt the Sea Robbers should have come away with all three points.

Orlando Pirates rue missed chances

The goalscorer believes that Bucs need to start finding a way to win these games or risk falling behind their rivals for top honours.

“Firstly thanks to the Almighty for granting us the opportunity to grace the field with our talents, glory to him. Coming to the game I think we played against a strong opponent,” Mntambo told SuperSport TV.

“We created a lot of chances in the first-half where we should have buried them, they played first, I think it put us under pressure, the plan for the game was to get all three points.

“We have not been winning, even in my past interview I said it, we need to get points, where we are at the moment we’re not even in the chasing pack, even though it’s still early in the season but teams are getting points. Even for us, it is of paramount importance that we start collecting maximum points.

“We can take the positives into the next game where we’re creating opportunities, we’re getting into goal-scoring situations, I think we can take those positives into the next encounter.

“But for us I think we need to go back to the drawing board and make sure that we win. I don’t know how many games now without a win, it’s disappointing now for a big team like us, we have to win.”

Mntambo admitted that he had not intended to go for goal when he found the back of the Royal AM net.

“In the game I didn’t start well but I grew in the game as the game went on, luck was also on my side, it was a cross but it went on to be a goal. No, it was not intended but I think I can build on that. Work more off the field, follow the coaches’ instructions, just stay humble and stay grounded,” he added.

Orlando Pirates are in action again on Tuesday 2 November when they take on Sekhukhune United.
