Orlando Pirates winger Austin Muwowo is reportedly set to depart the Buccaneers before the start of the next season, as the club have allegedly agreed to release him on a free transfer.

Muwowo joined Pirates amidst a lot of fanfare, having arrived in the country with an impressive reputation, having signed from Nkana FC in his native.

Muwowo has failed to make the grade at Pirates

The Zambian international then struggled to get game time in his first season at Pirates, seemingly struggling to adapt to the country. Muwowo was believed to cut a dejected figure at the Soweto giants in his maiden season, due to his lack of appearances and had also allegedly gone as far as requesting the club’s management to grant him permission to make a loan move to another club in Premier Soccer League.

When Pirates refused his request, he would’ve believed that would, in turn, offer a change in fortunes for him, resulting in more game time in the next season. However, more attacking signings like Deon Hotto only reduced him further down the pecking order. Muwowo and Pirates are both now seemingly in agreement that it just won’t happen for the left-footed winger at the Buccaneers.

Finally set to leave the Buccaneers

As Pirates look to further strengthen their options for the next season, having failed to qualify for the CAF Champions League, they are finally set to be willing to let Muwowo leave the club and further his career elsewhere for the coming season. He would be making room for another foreign player in the process.

A source speaking to The Citizen elaborated

“When Muwowo came here (to Orlando Pirates) he had great ambitions, there was so much more he wanted to achieve with the team. It’s obvious that he came highly rated here at the club plus he was playing for a big team in Zambia. Things haven’t been going his way since he joined the club. But, I’m sure he will be glad to know that he will be allowed to leave the team now as long as the management sign their targeted players for the new season,” said the source.

“There will more players that will be leaving the club and others will be loaned out to some teams. I don’t have the exact number yet because it will all depend on the players who will be joining the team.” He concluded.
