Orlando Pirates have confirmed that they will be jetting off back to Spain again for 2024/25 preseason, after previous success.

Last season, Pirates made good use of their Spanish tactician Jose Riviero’s contacts in the country.

Had successful trip last season

During that pre-season, Pirates played against three teams from three different leagues and countries. Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv, local Las Palmas of LaLiga as well as Independiente del Valle. The Buccaneers started in very encouraging fashion, with a victory against the Israelites. They then followed that up with a 3-1 win over Independiente del Valle. Their last game being a 0-0 draw.

Now after enjoying that experience, Pirates look to have stepped it up a notch ahead of the next season. This comes after an announcement from seven-time Europa League winners Sevilla, that they will be hosting the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup winners. According to the LaLiga side, this game will take place in just under a month’s time on the 15th of July.

Pirates have now since confirmed the fixture against Sevilla themselves. Furthermore, they have nailed down fixtures against Plymouth Argyle of England and Al Sadd of Qatar. announcing their schedule for their Spanish trip the club wrote the following on their website:

Pirates confirm opponents for 2024 Spain camp

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to announce the club’s Preseason schedule for 2024. The Mighty Buccaneers will be returning to Europe for a three-match tour in Spain. Jose Riveiro’s men will begin their preseason campaign against English Championship side Plymouth Argyle on July 12, before heading to Seville on July 15 to take on La Liga outfit Sevilla. Then to round up the tour, the back-to-back MTN8 and Nedbank Cup champs will lock horns with Qatar Stars League outfit Al Sadd SC on July 19.” Wrote their website.

Sevilla are perennial Europa League winners, with seven to their name. Plymouth have recently appointed Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney. Al Sadd are the only Qatari team to ever win the AFC Champions League in Asia. All three should provide different tests for the Pirates side.
