Earlier this month Mako was discharged from hospital and will continue to recover from his horror head injury at home. The 28-year-old was previously involved in a horror collision with his team-mate Richard Ofori during the recent DStv Premiership match against Baroka FC.

Mako lost consciousness, and was quickly attended to by the team’s medics, before an ambulance was brought onto the pitch to offer urgent medical attention while his team-mates – and the Baroka FC team – huddled together. Many seemed close to tears as they shielded him from the cameras.

It’s since been confirmed that Mako suffered a fracture to the head, and after undergoing surgery, is now continuing his recovery at home. He is only expected to be back in action next season.

“I’m grateful. He is recovering. God is good. It could have been worse,” said Ncikazi as per Sowetan Live.

“But I don’t think we will see him [play] again this season, I’m just happy that he is alive and healthy and will play football again.”

Ncikazi had previously said that Paseka Mako is recovering well and would only return to the squad in due course.

“God being good, Mako is conscious, he’s recovering and still in hospital for further tests but his health is improving, he’s okay and will be back in the team,” Ncikazi said ahead of their first leg quarter-final against Simba.

“He’s not part of the squad that’s there for safety reasons but we’re just grateful that his life was saved.”
