Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is facing a massive weekend. The Sea Robbers’ season will be made or broken in Soweto on Saturday.

ORLANDO PIRATES TO SUCCEED OR FAIL THIS SATURDAY

The Buccaneers have won the MTN8 trophy this season and are in third place on the DStv Premiership log. Yet, according to coach Riveiro, Orlando Pirates’ season will be a failure if they do not finish second and qualify for next season’s CAF Champions League. Speaking to the media this week, the Spaniard expects his team to defeat SuperSport United on Saturday, while also hoping Stellenbosch FC either draw or lose to Richards Bay in Durban on the same day.

“You can’t be fatigued if you are playing this type of games, playing for the big objective which is to put Orlando Pirates in the Champions League next season,” Riveiro said via the Sowetan.

“I think there’s no excuses… you need to go an extra mile, players and coaching staff, to make sure that the club finish at least second because we can’t finish first, obviously. Anything less than that, is not going to be a good season for us.

“We need to win the game against SuperSport on Saturday and wait that Stellenbosch don’t have a good day and if they have a good day, then they’ll be in the Champions League next season and that’d be well deserved for them,” the Orlando Pirates mentor added.

On the shock loss to TS Galaxy last Saturday, Riveiro felt that his players failed to recover from a slow start.

“Many things went wrong today… we were very slow at the beginning of the game. We took too much time to progress and we played to our opponent’s strengths, giving them the possibilities to run in transition. I think in the second half we were better than we were in the first half, controlling the game and creating chances,” the Orlando Pirates tactician concluded.
