Orlando Pirates star rewarded with bumper new contract

Orlando Pirates have taken a big step in securing the services of their talisman for the long-term future according to reports

Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng has been arguably the hottest footballer in the PSL so far this season.

He led the Buccaneers to the first trophy up for grabs this season (MTN8).

Saleng has five goals in just eight appearances for Jose Riveiro’s side.

And given his fine form, the Buccaneers have rushed to tie him down to the Mayfair outfit.

Orlando Pirates reward Saleng with improved contract

“KickOff has learnt that Orlando Pirates have rewarded midfielder Monnapule Saleng with an improved contract following his stellar performances this season.” a Kick-Off report read.

“According to sources close to Buccaneers, the 24-year-old has been offered an improved contract for his performances this season.”

In other news, former Orlando Pirates striker Justin Shonga has admitted that he still holds aspirations to return to the PSL.

The attacker is currently back home in Zambia playing for Nkwazi FC after stints with Sekhukhune United and Ismaily FC (Egypt).

Shonga joined the Buccaneers in 2017 from Nkwazi FC and showed great promise however he ultimately fizzled away in Mayfair.

He made 77 appearances for the Buccaneers, scoring 16 goals while assisting a further 16 more.

“Obviously it’s every players dream to play in the Premier Soccer League.” Shonga told FARPost.

“I played in South Africa, so I know how big it is to be part of that league. Every player on the African continent always wishes to play in the PSL. So it’s no different with me.

“If there could be offers then I will be happy to return to South Africa because it’s the highest level. We’ll just wait until there’s an opportunity to go back.”
