Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has been left to lament a lack of confidence in front of goal after his team sunk to a 1-0 loss to Chippa United at home on Sunday.

Pirates had a chance to move into a strong position in the league with a win and made most of the play on the day.

The Sea Robbers undoing was conceding from a setpiece and being unable to finish off any of the several chances they created.

“Well I’m sad with the result but very proud of our performance, I think we did everything in order to win, we generated the chances, kept the counter-attacks under control,” Riveiro said on SuperSport TV.

“One set-piece in the end punished the guys, punished us, it’s a game that we’ve seen many times in the football history, one team dominating, creating chances, not scoring. The other one having one chance, a set-piece in this case and getting the advantage and three points.

“Just improve the finishing, maybe we need to grow a bit more confidence in the last minutes that’s the key.

“We can face the game creating clear chances and when we do that we’re always going to be close to winning.

“We have to improve what we’re doing and improve in the last minutes, like I said maybe it’s a question of confidence but it will come.”

One goal to bag three points

Riveiro wouldn’t comment on the goal that cost Pirates the match saying he would need to analyse the play to see what could be done differently.

“I don’t know I have to check the action again, it was a good ball at least, I don’t know what happened with the marking, it’s something that we need to analyse now,” he added.

Orlando Pirates are back in action in midweek, facing Royal AM at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
