Orlando Pirates recruit Azola Matrose has been spotted with the Chippa United squad in pre-season training.

Matrose was confirmed as a new signing for Orlando Pirates but remains in the Eastern Cape.

Orlando Pirates to loan signing back to Chippa United

According to a source within the club, Matrose is set to be loaned back to Chippa for the season to gain top-flight experience.

“Azola Matrose is still with Chippa United despite being confirmed as a new signing for Pirates. He is training as the team returned from the break,” the source told Soccer Laduma.

“Yes, he is a Pirates player, but the plan is for him to remain with Chippa on loan for his growth as you know that Pirates is a big club and with a lot of stars and game- time might be difficult for him to get and that could affect his progress,” the source added.

Matrose has made a promising start to his career but remains exceedingly green having yet to play a full 90 minutes in the PSL.

His 14 appearances over the course of the last season showed a lot of promise but ten of those came as a substitute.

Orlando Pirates have seen many a promising young player swallowed up by their massive pool of players offering stiff competition.

The Sea Robbers have seemingly fallen into a pattern of failing to get the most out of players before releasing them and later seeing them thrive elsewhere.

Most recently we have seen former Orlando Pirates junior Yusuf Maart first return to the Cape before making a name for himself at Sekhkhune United and earning a Bafana call-up.

Maart seemed unwilling to consider a return to Mayfair and has now signed with Kaizer Chiefs.

Orlando Pirates contributed just four players to the recent Bafana Bafana squad, and need to find ways of getting more out of their highly-paid squad.

Against that backdrop a season-long loan at Chippa should prove useful to Matrose as he prepares to be thrown into the melee of being a Buccaneer.
