Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu share the spoils – 8 December

Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu settled for a share of the spoils in a league which was played in Durban on Wednesday night.

Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu settled for a share of the spoils in a league which was played in Durban on Wednesday night.

Pirates were the first to break the deadlock through Deon Hotto but Tshepang Moremi restored parity with a late in the first half.

Pirates had their first sight at goal in the ninth minute when Olisa Ndah’s header went wide of target as the visitors took the game to AmaZulu.

Tercious Malope and Fortune Makaringe also saw their attempts go wide on either side of the half.

Pirates would then open the scoring with a beautiful team goal via Hotto in the 29th minute, leaving Veli Mothwa hapless.

Usuthu knew they needed to attack more, a s they did just that with Keagan Buchanan’s 33rd minute going wide while Andre De Jong also failed to hit the target three minutes before the interval.

Benni McCarthy’s relentlessness paid off on the stroke of half time as Moremi pounced after some sloppy defending by Pirates.

The second half saw Pirates on the front foot with Makaringe missing the target while Kwame Peprah and Collins Makgaka were both denied by Mothwa.

The two teams showed more determination and sense of urgency in the final third as in search of a winning goal.

However, it was Pirates who had the best chances late in the game as Thembinkosi Lorch and Peprah ballooned their efforts.
