Orbit College: Monnapule Saleng’s former club promoted to NFD!

Orbit College has been promoted to the Motsepe Foundation Championship also known as the National First Division (NFD).

Orbit College has been promoted to the Motsepe Foundation Championship also known as the National First Division (NFD).

Orbit College, who are based in the North West, beat Umsinga United 1-0 in the semi-finals of the ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs on Friday.

This is the same team that gave Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana star Monnapule Saleng a platform to shine in the amateur ranks.

Saleng then moved to Free State Stars in 2019 where he played for Pirates who immediately loaned him out to Swallows FC.

As a result, Orbit College will meet Upington City in the final on Saturday to determine the ABC Motsepe League National champions.

NORTHERN CAPE GETS SECOND NFD TEAM AS UPINGTON CITY GAIN PROMOTION

The Northern Cape province will have two teams in the Motsepe Foundation Championship also known as National First Division (NFD) next season.

This follows the promotion of Upington City on Friday following their semi-final 3-2 penalty shootout win over Mpheni Home Defenders at Harry Gwala Stadium in the National ABC Motsepe League play-offs.

Both Upington City and Mpheni Home Defenders matched each other pound for pound in the first half and went into the break locked at 0-0.

The second half saw Upington City take the game to the KwaZulu-Natal outfit, and they were rewarded in the 75th minute when Dellmico Jonkers fired them into the lead.

However, Gucci Boys allowed Mpheni Home Defenders back into the game, and they were punished in the 88th minute with Munyadziwa restoring parity.

The game had to be decided on penalties, and it was Upington City who won 3-2 to join now provincial rivals Hungry Lions in the NFD.
