MTN8 OPINION: Victor “All Eyes On Me” Gomes

Victor Gomes stole the limelight in yesterday’s MTN8 semifinal between Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu. It’s not the first time that’s happened.

The weekend’s pair of MTN8 semifinals produced more questions than answers.

MTN8 talking points from the weekend

Victor Gomes enjoys the spotlight

It’s always been the case, but Victor Gomes reminded us just how much he loves attention in yesterday’s semifinal between Chiefs and AmaZulu. He dished out a flurry of red cards to players and technical staff from both sides. Whether or not you agree about the validity of those dismissals, what seems certain is that Gomes still loves having all eyes on him.

Chiefs really need to start scoring more goals

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane said that his side could and should have scored six goals against AmaZulu. Instead, Amakhosi had to settle for a 1-1 draw against an AmaZulu side that had been reduced to ten men as early as the 54th minute. Perhaps Zwane is right, but the fact remains that his side just isn’t putting the ball in the back of the net with enough regularity this season.

Until his side finds its shooting boots, Zwane will be facing the same questions after matches.

Ndlondlo will take Pirates to new levels

It hasn’t taken Nbabayithethwa Ndlondlo long to showcase his talents in a Pirates jersey. On debut for the Sea Robbers, he produced a man of the match display against Sundowns. The 27-year-old attacking midfielder is a star and his quality, especially in a creative sense, can be the difference for Pirates this season.

Did you know that Ndlondlo has scored seven DStv Premiership goals this calendar year? Only Peter Shalulile (16) has struck more times in the top-flight in this timeframe.
