Those were the words of former Chiefs defender Thomas Sweswe in an interview with FarPost when reflecting on Billiat’s form at Naturena.

The 32-year-old arrived four years ago as hot property from Mamelodi Sundowns. He had a brilliant first season but he has blown hot and cold since then.

Now, Sweswe believes it is the responsibility of Billiat’s teammates at Chiefs to help him improve, saying this was the case during his time with the club between 2009 and 2012.

BILLIAT’S STRUGGLES AT KAIZER CHIEFS ARE BEYOND ZWANE – SWESWE

“It’s beyond coaches. Players must push him [Billiat] hard, and help to raise his game. I think it’s at this point when he needs his teammates to lift up his spirit,” Sweswe told FARPost.

“If you look at it, the team has a number of new players, and it’s obviously taking time for all of them to gel. But when it comes to supporting each other, I think it’s supposed to be natural.

“Back then, when one of us struggled, we worked hard to push him ahead at all levels because we knew that we needed each other.

NO BILLIAT, NO KAIZER CHIEFS – SWESWE

With Chiefs lingering in 10th place with 11 points from eight games, Sweswe said it is clear that the team struggles whenever Billiat is struggling.

Nonetheless, the 41-year-old believes Billiat just needs one big performance to rediscover the same form that made him a household name in the PSL.

“It’s clear that when Billiat struggles, the team also struggles. He makes the team buzz in some way and still has what it takes to be the team’s firepower.

“He just needs one game to turn around his fortunes because he still has a lot to offer, and Arthur [Zwane] knows it.”
