Njabulo Blom’s contract saga is now over as he has decided to leave Kaizer Chiefs for Major League Soccer in the United States.

Is this move for the best or will it lead to Blom floundering in obscurity in a foreign land.

US move great for Njabulo Blom

At this time in his career this move for Blom is what is clearly best for the player.

The technical instruction and structure of the American game with give Blom the leg up on players based in South Africa.

We have already seen the tremendous progress made by the likes of Bongokhule Hlongwane who joined Minnesota United in 2021.

The end of an argument

Kaizer Chiefs might be losing a star player but they themselves will likely take it as some consolation that he will be headed abroad and not to a PSL rival.

For the Glamour Boys the tailend of the Blom saga might come around to being a good PR exercise after initially painting the club in a negative light.

Chiefs’ glowing referral of the player is a far cry from the shots taken at the player’s agent just a few days ago.

“Kaizer Chiefs are elated to confirm the transfer of their youth development graduate, Njabulo Blom to US Major League Soccer team, St. Louis City SC.” a club statement read.

“Incredibly, this ground-breaking transfer is the first transaction involving a youth development graduate of the Club to the MLS, notwithstanding the many other exports the Club has produced in the past.”

It seems that Chiefs are happy to let Blom go as he will also be trained by a former Glamour Boy.

Former Bafana Bafana fullback Bradley Carnell will take charge of St Louis for the upcoming MLS season.

Having just turned 23 this move is a massive one for Blom and for South African football and could have a positive effect on the national team to boot.
