It’s not long before Nasreddine Nabi becomes the new Kaizer Chiefs coach. He’ll be bringing technical team members along for the ride!

Da Cruz played futsal

Fernando Da Cruz will join the Nabi revolution at Kaizer Chiefs, according to SABC Sport. 52-year-old Da Cruz has an interesting background, having played professional futsal for France, collecting 55 caps. From a coaching perspective, he’s taken assistant charge of Wasquehal in France and Mouscron in Belgium, before getting the top job at the latter in 2014. From there, he was in charge of the Lille B side and got involved in scouting operations within a team famous for its recruitment of unknown talents. Lille also became smart at selling players at enormous profits. Most recently, Da Cruz has been the assistant at FAR Rabat, Nasreddine Nabi’s club. Nabi will sign a deal with Chiefs this week, and then we’ll certainly be hearing more about Mr Da Cruz, who has experience working with Nicolas Pepe and Eden Hazard.

New Kaizer Chiefs coach makes a transfer request

According to UnplayableZA on X, Nasreddine Nabi has zeroed in on Tumisang Orebonye as his first potential signing as head coach at Naturena. The 28-year-old striker plays under Nabi at FAR Rabat and has 40 caps for the Botswana National team alongside Amakhosi centre-back Thatayaone Ditlhokwe. The prolific hitman has four goals and an assist from 15 league appearances in 2023-2024. That’s a healthy ratio of direct goal contributions. Orebonye only joined the club in January though, on a long contract, so Chiefs would need to shell out a hefty transfer fee. The 1.80m striker, who has featured in this season’s CAF Champions League, is valued at €450k (R8.7 million) by transfermarkt.

Chiefs cutting salary costs

Top earners Keagan Dolly, Itumeleng Khune, Zitha Kwinika, Ashley du Preez and Yusuf Maart could all hypothetically leave Naturena. Legendary ‘keeper Khune isn’t extending his contract, Dolly’s injury problems are mounting and Kwinika won’t have a guaranteed place in the starting XI with Given Msimango and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe now the preferred combination in the centre of defence. Meanwhile, talk of a R20 Million move to Portugal for Du Preez gathers pace and Yusuf Maart is replaceable in central midfield. It would be difficult to justify keeping any of these players while their wages continue to suffocate the club’s balance sheet. Between them, this quintet earn R2.85 million a month.

Does Da Cruz have the minerals to succeed at Naturena?
