Kaizer Chiefs players and staff returned to Naturena for the first day of preseason training on Monday.

it’s reported there were new faces in the building, some familiar ones to the Chiefs brand were present too.

The new faces were the two coaching additions of assistant coach Fernando Da Cruz. He was joined by goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi. The two coaches are set to be joined by four more members, who will make up Nabi’s technical team. Some of those familiar faces were not just the players, who were still contracted to Chiefs, but coaches too.

Nabi assembling his technical team

With Nabi widely expected to overhaul the Chiefs technical staff next season, it’s believed there will be no second chances. But with that being said, FARPost reports that the likes of Muzi Maluleke and Dillon Sheppard were present. Maluleke’s portfolio is strength and conditioning, while Sheppard has been assistant coach for the past two seasons.

“Goalkeeper coach Mzoughi, known for his energetic approach, reportedly added an infectious enthusiasm to the session. While strength and conditioning coach Muzi Maluleke oversaw the initial fitness tests, Mzoughi’s presence was noted as a positive sign for the goalkeeping department. On the brighter side, legendary goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was present, signalling his continued commitment to the club. He is also out of contract next week. Dillon Sheppard, a familiar face, was on hand to guide the new coaches, easing their transition into the Chiefs environment.” Wrote the publication.

Maluleke and Sheppard given Chiefs lifelines?

It is not clear if Nabi is indeed, planning to keep Maluleke and Sheppard at Chiefs. It could also just be a case of the two serving the last week of their contracts at the club. Furthermore, it could be because the rest of technical staff will join with the Tunisian later. The local duo could be tasked with just helping the incoming duo acclimatise before being shown door.
