Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has made it very clear that he is not retiring from football.

The 36-year-old star was honoured during Amakhosi’s 0-0 draw against Polokwane City on Saturday afternoon. Mzansi’s finest came off the bench in the final 15 minutes and kept a clean sheet. Before the match, many football lovers were under the impression that Saturday’s match was Itu’s last.

The former Bafana Bafana captain insisted that his journey as a soccer player did not reach an end.

Chiefs star Itu Khune not retiring anytime soon

“This journey is still long,” he told SuperSport TV after the Polokwane City game.

“We’re still going to see each other, we’re still going to travel together, as much as we have been travelling it and I appreciate everything that everyone has done for me.

“It’s not a farewell. The club made it clear that they are honouring me for 25 years of service. They(Chiefs) didn’t say ‘we’re bidding farewell to Itumeleng Khune’.

“I think we will go back, sit down and discuss the future. But for now, nothing has been confirmed yet.

“My legs can still carry me for the next couple of years, so I will continue giving my all whenever given the opportunity to don the black and gold jersey of Kaizer Chiefs,” Khune said.

Mzansi’s finest not entertaining retirement rumours

Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson honoured Khune, hinting that the star was retiring.

“We have to give thanks to Itu(Khune) for serving this team for such great years, he did a lot for the team so we just honouring him, but as the coach who leads the team now and some of the players; we feel honoured to be in his presence,” he said as per iDiski Times.

“We wish him all the best and hope he gets honoured with more of these accolades, Johnson on Khune.

Khune retiring won’t be bad news for Chiefs given the 36-year-old has been benched for most of the season.
