Pirates “watertight defence” doesn’t bother Shalulile

Ahead of a blockbuster MTN8 semifinal, Peter Shalulile sounds unfazed by it all. To be fair, the man knows where the back of the net is.

Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile is confident that the Brazilians will have enough weaponry to breach the Pirates defence in tomorrow’s MTN8 semifinal.

Shalulile taking MTN8 semifinal in his stride

Pirates and Sundowns have both made impressive starts to their respective PSL campaigns, placing them second and first on the log respectively. That adds extra spice to what is already expected to be a hot contest.

Shalulile has bagged six goals in the DStv Premiership already this term. He’s now got 16 in the division this calendar year. The next-best in that metric is Pirates new man Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, with seven.

Sea Robbers are watertight

Pirates have conceded just five goals so far in eight DStv Premiership matches. Shalulile respects that fact, but he sounds confident they can be breached.

This season is a good season, a competitive season. All the teams are out to win the league, to survive and be top 8. Especially Pirates. They’ve picked up levels to the point where you can see they have great players, to be honest.

“Their backline, as you guys have said, it’s tough to score against them, but the mark of champions is they knock on the door until it opens. It won’t be an easy match, but in every match we have played against big teams in this league, we managed to create chances and come Saturday all you have to do is bury your chances.

In every match, Sundowns will definitely create chances and it’s for us now, the players upfront, to make sure we score goals.”

Kickoff between Pirates and Sundowns is 15:30 on Saturday.
