Orlando Pirates are through to the last four of the MTN8 after a 2-1 victory over Royal AM at the Chatsworth stadium on Saturday.

Vicent Pule and James Monyane were on the scoresheet for the Buccaneers while Mokete Mogaila pulled one back for the hosts.

The Soweto giants made the perfect start to the contest when Pule rifled a left-footed shot into the back of the net as early as the third minute.

The match continued to be a see-saw affair and it was the turn of Zakhele Lepasa to waste a chance for Pirates 10 minutes before the half-time break.

The Buccaneers went 2-0 up in the 55th minute when home goalkeeper Zakahle Ngcobo made a meal of a low shot from Monyane and the ball nestled into back of the net.

Royal AM were quickly back in the game though and pulled a goal back when Mogaila tapped home a rebound from a shot by Mfundo Thikazi that came off the post.

Orlando Pirates join AmaZulu in Last 4

The hosts threw everything forward in search of the equaliser and Thabo Matlaba came close but his firece shot sailed over Richard Ofori’s goal.

Both sides ended the game with ten men after a scuffle close to full-time saw Khethukuthula Ndlovu and Goodman Mosele given their marching orders.

In the end though Orlando Pirates held on for the victory and join AmaZulu as the first two sides in the last four of the MTN8.
