The Brazilians currently lead second-placed Richards Bay by an astonishing 14 points. Amakhosi are 19 points adrift of the scintillating title pace set by the defending champions.

Kaizer Jr., however, hasn’t conceded the title and claims his club will continue to fight, referencing their own collapse in the 2019-20 campaign.

Not over until it’s over for Kaizer Chiefs?

“This is football. If there is anybody who knows that the league is not won at this stage, it’s us,” he told Newzroom Afrika via Citizen.

“At one stage we were 15 points clear of Sundowns, at the same mark. Everyone knows what happened in 2019, we lost it with 30 minutes to go.

“So, we will continue fighting, we will continue having hope.”

The Glamour Boys Technical Director also insisted that Chiefs will focus on the Nedbank Cup as it could be the most realistic and immediate chance to end the club’s trophy drought which now stands at over seven years.

“Nedbank Cup is a dream for all of us. We know that if you win that, the conversations around droughts and everything will be put aside.

“But at the same time we still know that our project is a long-term one. We know that we’ll go with all guns blazing for the Nedbank Cup but at the same time nothing is over.

“The message to the supporters, let’s rally behind the team, let’s give them as much support as we can. This could change in a couple of month.”

In-form Sundowns arrive at FNB Stadium to face Chiefs this Saturday off the back of an 11-match winning streak in the PSL. A win over Chiefs would secure their first ever league double over Amakhosi, and it would also set a new record for consecutive wins in the top-flight.
