Maart is said to have completed his move to Chiefs this week, after months of negotiations between Sekhukhune United and Amakhosi.

Chiefs faced competition for Maart

The former Orlando Pirates youth player has been the subject of much transfer speculation for almost a year now, with the likes of Chiefs, Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns said to be interested. Most recently both the Buccaneers and Masandawana were credited with interest to rival Amakhosi for the services of the gifted central midfielder but in the end it looks as if it was the latter who would come out trumps, by landing the signature of Maart.

The signing would have not come without a lot of negotiating and compromise, however, with Sekhukhune believed to have initially slapped a whopping R10 million fee on Maart’s head. Undeterred by that. Chiefs are said to have returned to the negotiations table and offered the Limpopo-based side a figure in the region of R6 million. According to widespread reports, that offer was finally accepted by Babina Noko on Monday, with a whole host of publications reporting that an agreement had finally been reached between the two parties.

Contract length revealed

Furthermore, it was also said that Maart had already agreed his personal terms with Chiefs and all that was left was for the Glamour Boy’s to convince Sekhukhune to sell. Now more details on the move have emerged with a source telling Soccer-Laduma when the two clubs had originally agreed the fee as well as divulging the contract length.

“It’s something that the two clubs first agreed on in May already but there were some issues that needed to be ironed out before the deal could be concluded. Now that the player is back from the national team and with the clubs having concluded with the issues that were outstanding, the deal has been signed and sealed. It’s a three-year deal with an option to extend for two years,” said the source.
