Kaizer Chiefs head coach Ernst Middendorp has revealed the technical team’s peculiar approach towards the remainder of the 2019/20 PSL campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs sit atop the Absa Premiership log standings with seven PSL games to go. The Amakhosi are desperate to land their first league title since 2015 however, Middendorp has since revealed how the club are counteracting the immense pressure placed on them.

We’re giving the players freedom – Middendorp

Middendorp, who has a history of outbursts on the technical bench, has revealed that the entire technical team at Kaizer Chiefs has agreed to place their trust in the Amakhosi players while maintaining a calm demeanor throughout the tense title race.

“We discussed it in the technical team, where we said the expectations are high and we are in a situation where we know we have to fulfil expectations.” Middendorp told members of the media.

“Let’s just be a little bit more relaxed, leave it a little bit more to the players, they know what they have to do, so in certain moments push them a little bit but not too much. You have to give them the feeling that what they are doing is right and they will correct it and judge themselves.

“I think that’s probably strategically, in particular now starting with the remaining eight, which is now seven games. That was definitely a clear decision we as Kaizer Chiefs took to be a bit more calm and supportive in a productive way.”
