Mdu Shabalala: I chose Chiefs because Pirates wasn’t at my level

In a revealing new interview, Kaizer Chiefs starlet Mduduzi Shabalala is full of fighting talk ahead of the Soweto Derby against Pirates.

Mdu Shabalala has revealed that he trialed at Orlando Pirates but chose Kaizer Chiefs because he wanted a bigger challenge. Those comments might be designed to ruffle a feathers ahead of this weekend’s Soweto Derby. Then again, he may just be speaking his mind at face value.

Mdu Shabalala gunning for the Buccaneers

Mdu is in good shape at the moment and should be in contention for a starting place in his first senior Soweto Derby. The 19-year-old was on the score sheet in Amakhosi’s defeat to Golden Arrows, and he’ll be desperate to score against the Buccaneers. He was a rare bright spot on the day for Arthur Zwane’s men.

Chiefs dominant in recent Soweto Derby clashes

Kaizer Chiefs have actually won the last four Soweto Derby clashes in the PSL and will be desperate to make it five on the bounce. Can they do it Mduduzi “Mdu or Die” Shabalala will be desperate to be part of history by doing so.
