Maritzburg United v Orlando Pirates: Kick off, head to head and live stream

Maritzburg United will host Orlando Pirates in a top of the table clash on Friday at the Harry Gwala stadium. Both sides are unbeaten in the league so far this season and will go into the fixture looking to extend their run.

Though early days in the season, fans of the Soweto giants will be encouraged by the character shown by their side so far. They held on for narrow win against Ajax Cape Town at Orlando stadium on Tuesday. A Pirates win on Friday will take them halfway to their win tally of six the last campaign and renew fresh belief.

Maritzburg United on the other hand are hoping to build on their solid showing last season where they finished in the top eight. They currently sit on top of the table and are tied at seven points with Friday’s opponents after their perfect start was halted by AmaZulu on Tuesday who held on for a 1-all draw.

Head to head

History slightly favours the visitors here as they have defeated the “Team of Choice” seven times in their sixteen encounters. Maritzburg have won five times with the rest of their clashes ending in a stalemate.

The home side edged the corresponding fixture last season winning 2-1 but Pirates exerted revenge on the KZN side when they hosted them in April registering a 2-0 victory at the Orlando Stadium.

Clashes between these two sides have not been short of thrilling moments. The Buccaneers made a memorable comeback when they met in January last year after being 3-1 down at halftime to draw 3-3.
