AS IT HAPPENED | MARITZBURG UNITED VS ORLANDO PIRATES

Amadou Soukouna netted the only goal of the game, converting from his spot-kick after Maritzburg United were awarded a penalty.

The result saw the Team of Choice deny the Buccaneers what would have been a top spot had they won the match.

Maritzburg United matched Pirates pound for pound in the first half, and this could be because of the atmosphere out in the stands.

The only moment that dented this exciting affair was when the game had to be stopped for about 10 minutes due to floodlights failure.

But that 10 minutes was added at the end of the first half as both sides went into the break locked at 0-0.

The ssecond half started with both sides at each other’s throats – Innocent Maela had a chance to break the deadlock but his glancing header went wide.

Pirates did a lot of attacking as Maritzburg United were vulnerable to their counter-attacking football but goalkeeper King Ndlovu was just brilliant in goal.

Maritzburg United were then awarded a penalty out of nowhere in the last 10 minutes of the game after Olisa Ndah was adjudged to have pushed Sibusiso Conco inside the box.

Soukouna then stepped up and fired past Ofori, much to the delight of Maritzburg United technical team and fans.
