The Team of Choice won the encounter thanks to a first-half brace by Rowan Human.

Maritzburg favourites to return to PSL

Maritzburg have now overtaken Cape Town Spurs in the three-team mini log standings. The Cape Town based team topped the standings last weekend with a 1-0 win at Casric but United’s 2-0 puts them on top.

At the moment, the battle for the remaining DStv Premiership spot is between Maritzburg and Spurs, which could go down the wire.

Casric’s chances of playing in SA’s top flight football are slim after suffering two defeats, however they can still sneak into the PSL if they win their last two games by big margins and Spurs and Uniteddraw against each other both in both games.

Maritzburg coach Fadlu Davids said he was dissapointed despite the win.

“It is really disappointing that we didn’t kill off the game with the third and the fourth goal,” said Davids after the game.

“We really have to change that mindset against Cape Town Spurs away because if we are the PSL team we have to show that we are better and we can manage games.

Davids unhappy with performance despite win

“But in the way we did, I’m really disappointed not to kill off the game like I expected the players to do,” Maritzburg coach added.

“The two-zero at half time, the possibilities were there (to score more), the crowd was behind us, we really had good passage of play to be able to score, but kicking the ball against our own player.
