Kaizer Chiefs’ 2-1 defeat to SuperSport United has blown the PSL title race wide open. Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits will be looking to capitalise when they face off at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday.

Both teams head into this game off the back of convincing wins. Wits claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory away to Stellenbosch, while Sundowns downed AmaZulu 3-0 in Durban.

Masandawana have been struggling with injuries, particularly in attack. Jose Ali Meza, Mauricio Affonso, Phakamani Mahlambi and Gaston Sirino all missed the Usuthu clash.

Sphelele Mkhulise has seized his opportunity to prove himself through increased game time. Sibusiso Vilakazi has regained his goalscoring touch with goals against Polokwane City and AmaZulu in Sundowns’ last two games.

“I’m happy for Vila, you know, he scored the goal in two games. He’s really putting pressure on me, saying, ‘I must play and I must score,’” Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane told SuperSport TV of Vilakazi. The competition for places at the club appears to be driving the Brazilians to new heights.

Vilakazi will be hoping to add to his goal tally against his former club, but Wits have not proven easy to penetrate lately. Gavin Hunt’s charges have conceded just one goal in their last five games.

The last three matches between these sides have finished 1-1. If there is a repeat of that result, the only winners will be Kaizer Chiefs.

Kick-off time and prediction

Kick-off time: 7 January, 19:30.

Prediction: Mamelodi Sudowns’ expected change of winning is 48%, and they win 52% of their matches with these odds. Wits have been given a measly 29% expected chance of winning and to make things worse, they only win 21% of their matches with these odds.
