Mamelodi Sundowns vs Cape Town City FC: Prediction, scores, kick-off time and head-to-head

An intriguing match-up beckons as Cape Town City travel to Mamelodi Sundowns.  The two teams are level on points on the PSL log, separated only by goal difference. City were dumped out of the Cup competition over the weekend by Polokwane City, though, while Sundowns were rampant, defeating Bloemfontein Celtic 3-1.

The two sides head into the fixture of mixed fortunes, then.

Pitso Mosimane was understandably a bit more upbeat about the looming fixture.

“It’s good we came back. It shows experience and character. We never panicked. This time we got the subs right. Last week I got it wrong. You learn in football. We kept the balance. Sometimes you get it right, sometimes you get it wrong,” said Mosimane ahead of this midweek clash.

“We’ve got a game now on Wednesday and it’s not an easy one. And then the biggest on Saturday [when Sundowns will look to recover their Caf Champions League tie against AS Otoho].”

But games come thick and fast and while Benni McCarthy admitted he was “very disappointed” with his team’s first half application against Rise and Shine, they had just one day to go back to the drawing board.

The two sides have played each other six times in the league since the 2016-17 season. The Citzens hold the upper hand here, having won four and lost two. There have been no draws between the two teams. And, judging by the way their respective seasons have gone so far, this will be the more lively of the two fixtures on Tuesday night.
