South Africa will come to a standstill this evening when Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City face off in the 2021 MTN8 final at the Moses Mabhida stadium!
The MTN8 title is the only trophy that has eluded Mamelodi Sundowns and winning tonight will tonight will leave the Brazilians with a completed trophy cabinet!
Cape Town City on the other hand are no strangers to the MTN8 final. The Citizens are appearing in their third final in five years! They lifted the coveted trophy on one previous occasion in 2018.

“It’s part of football, I think at the end, the referees are also human beings. Once there’s human elements, you must put space for errors and that is what you can do,” Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rhulani Mokwena said regarding the element of match officiating ahead of the MTN8 final.
“I always speak about which space I come from and the space I come from is about focusing on things you can control, and the preparations of the team, to make sure we prepare the team to avoid fear and anxiety with regards to the nerves of a big match like a final.
“But we as the coaching staff of Mamelodi Sundowns can’t control external factors and unfortunately in football, the referees are part of that. We have to support and encourage the officials to help them to give best perfomances because in football matches, you need three teams, your team, the opponents and refeering team to be on point.
“Fortunately, for us as Mamelodi Sundowns this season, we haven’t had bad experiences. The referees are trying to assist our country to uplift our standard of football.”
