Mamelodi Sundowns visit Motjeka Madisha’s family to pay their respects

Mamelodi Sundowns players and management took time off training on Thursday to visit the family of late former team-mate Motjeka Madisha in Ga-Madisha Leolo in Zebediela.

Madisha, or “Ace” as he was affectionately known, will be laid to rest on Saturday, 6 February after tragically losing his life in a car accident on 12 December 2020.

Madisha died exactly one month prior to his 26th birthday.

The accident, which took place on the Zuurfontein Road near Chloorkop, also claimed the life of Madisha’s childhood friend, Thabang Martin Kakase.

According to the Kickoff website, a couple of the Mamelodi Sundowns players revealed how they will remember Madisha.

“We lost a good player, a brother, a friend. It’s not easy, but hopefully and eventually we will get over it. But he will be forever in our hearts,” said defender Mosa Lebusa.

“There is a lot I remember about him but the most memories we shared were really special. I will always think of a person who was never sad, always had a smile on his face.

“He was too playful but what I liked about that, as playful as he was, as irritating as he was, when it comes to the match he would give you 120 percent, no doubt about that.”

Striker Kermit Erasmus remembers Madisha for his love of ‘spy-twos’.

“Very humble and always smiling, always joking around especially when a player gets put through the legs, we call it ‘spy-two’. He would laugh even if it’s in the game, whether it’s his player or opposition player.

“He was a very fun person to be around, very humble and positive,” aid Erasmus.

Madisha played his final Mamelodi Sundowns match in their 3-0 DStv Premiership win over Stellenbosch FC on 28 November 2020. The match was his 99th domestic appearance for the Brazilians. .

In those 99 matches, Madisha scored three goals.

He also played 24 matches and scored three goals in the CAF Champions League bringing his total for Mamelodi Sundowns to 123 matches and six goals.

Motjeka Madisha represented South Africa at all age group levels and played seven matches for Bafana Bafana scoring one goal which came in the 3-0 victory over Botswana in the 2018 COSAFA Cup.
