Mamelodi Sundowns unveil new Sporting Director

Mamelodi Sundowns chairman Tlhopi Motsepe has officially welcomed and unveiled their new Sporting Director at the club.

Flemming Berg is the new member of the Sundowns technical team, and he comes with wealth of experience in football.

The 49-year-old has a good track record in the youth structures in Denmark, and Sundowns are hoping to use his expertise to take the club to greater heights.

Berg fills in the void left by Jose Roman Alexanko who parted ways with Sundowns barely three years into the job.

Before Alexanko, Sundowns had Erik Hamren as their sporting director, but he could only last for seven months between January and August of 2018.

BERG’S ARRIVAL AT MAMELODI SUNDOWNS WAS ALWAYS IMMINENT

Berg’s arrival at Sundowns was always imminent as the news of his appointment as the club’s sporting director first surfaced in February 2022.

He was expected to start his new job at the Brazilians on 1 April, according to to Danish Publication Ekstrabladet.

And his unveiling means Berg has already familiarised himself with the environment at Sundowns over the past few days.

The news of Berg’s departure, at the time, was confirmed by the Danish Football Union in an official statement.

“Everyone in Danish football owes Flemming Berg a big thank you for his great and tireless efforts and contribution to the development of Danish football,” football director Peter Møller said on the official website.
