Mamelodi Sundowns match TWO old records but Williams falls short

Mamelodi Sundowns have matched TWO old records with a 2-1 win over Chippa United on Tuesday but goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has fallen short.

On the night, Sundowns registered what was their eighth consecutive home league win; and their first such record since 1999 which was 23 years ago.

Furthermore, the fact that Sundowns scored twice means they have now scored in 14 consecutive league games – that’s the record they set in 1999 and again in 2011.

This rampant Sundowns team sits in position one on the DStv Premiership log with 40 points from 16 league games – they are 13 points clear at the top.

Meanwhile, Sundowns goalkeeper Williams has fallen short of a PSL record for most consecutive cleansheets as he conceded against Chippa United.

The 30-year-old recently set a new personal record of seven consecutive cleansheets, and he was two short of Wayne Roberts (9) who achieved that during the 2003-04 season at Wits.

Nonetheless, all is not lost for Williams as there are still 14 more league matches to play for Sundowns until the end of the season.
