And this is if Rhulani Mokwena‘s latest remarks are anything to go although the Sundowns mentor tried to downplay the club’s interest in Williams.

All Mokwena was prepared to say was that Sundowns always have space for good players, adding that they move into that space whenever those quality players are available.

In his own words, Mokwena admitted that the Sundowns goalkeeping department needs to be refreshed as both Denis Onyango and Kennedy Mweene are fast approaching their 40s.

The young mentor said there is a need for a long-term investment in that department, hinting that Williams will give Sundowns exactly that.

However, Mokwena revealed that it’s not as easy as it seems to get Williams from SuperSport United, saying the club will inform its supporters as soon as there is progress.

As reported on The South African on Sunday, the proposed Williams deal to Sundowns hit a snag due to the fact that SuperSport United want Ricardo Goss on a permanent deal and not on loan as proposed by the undisputed PSL champions.

RHULANI MOKWENA SAYS MAMELODI SUNDOWNS HAVE SPACE FOR RONWEN WILLIAMS

“We’ve always got space for good players. I don’t know who’s the national team captain but we’ve always got space for good players. We want the best players and if the best players so happen to be available then we move in that space,” said Mokwena to SABC Sport.

“Everybody knows [the goalkeeping department] is a position that needs long-term investment and to try to check up, particularly when you look at Kennedy and Denis reaching close to 40 now.

“They know and they are already incredible servants of this club – Kennedy and Denis have done so much for Mamelodi Sundowns, but the reality is that we race against Mother Nature, and you’ve always got to try to make sure you are prepared to start a new race,” he continued.

“But look, it’s not as easy as it seems and I’m sure the club will make the necessary announcements in due course.”
