Mahlambi spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Chippa United but he had a disastrous campaign as he suffered a long-term injury soon after signing for them.

He spent the entire season recovering from the injury, and that hampered his progress at Chippa United where he was looking to revive his career.

Mahlambi, who joined Sundowns on a four-year deal in 2018 following his return from African giants Al Ahly, had another difficult loan spell with AmaZulu in the 2020-21 season.

It was Benni McCarthy who recruited Mahlambi from Sundowns in an effort to get the best out of him, but the attacker’s off-field behaviour became an issue.

Now, with his loan deal expired, Mahlambi now belongs to Sundowns but Daily Sun reports that the Tshwane giants will NOT take up the option they have on his contract.

Mahlambi’s departure will bring the number of players shown the exit door by Sundowns to two after George Maluleka was let go last week.

Contacted for comment, Mahlambi’s agent Glyn Binkin said Sundowns have until 30 June to decide whether or not they will keep the speedy attacker.
