Mamelodi Sundowns to compete with Manchester United for hot prospect?

Mamelodi Sundowns are known to have very little competition when they enter the transfer market for a player in South Africa, due to their financial might.

With the almost blank cheque of the club’s owner Dr Patrice Motsepe, Sundowns are usually able to blow any local side out of the water for their transfer targets.

In the past they have beaten Kaizer Chiefs to the former SuperSport United United midfield duo of Teboho Mokoena as well as Sipho Mbule. Sundowns have even been able to lure some of the most promising South American talents to South Africa such as former Chile U17 international Marcelo Allende, who reportedly cost a cool R50 million.

But what happens when the South African giants meet world football giants Manchester United in the transfer market. That battle hasn’t come to the forefront, or at least not publicly in the past. But, it is believed that all could change soon as the Sundowns and Manchester United are both believed to be interested in acquiring the services of 15-year-old hot School of Excellence prospect Emile Witbooi. 

Sundowns and Manchester United to battle for Witbooi?

Witbooi recently made waves when he represented the South African U16 side on their European tour. Now according to iDiskiTimes, although the results were not good for the South Africans, the young midfielder made enough of an impression on many top European clubs. One of those clubs being Manchester United. Earlier in the week,goal.com SA claimed that Sundowns had also registered a strong interest in the player.

As it stands, it is thought that Manchester United have made an inquiry over Witbooi, while Sundowns want to replicate what they did by signing Siyabonga Mabena from same School of Excellence. The advantage the Brazilians could have in this transfer pursuit is that, Witbooi happens to be the son of their current player Bradley Ralani.

But should it come down to a straight shoot out between Manchester United and Sundowns, it is very hard to see the player deciding to stay on South African shores.
