Mamelodi Sundowns suffer major blow, utility star OUT for up to 9 months!

Mamelodi Sundowns have suffered a major blow as Lebohang Maboe is set to miss the 2021-22 PSL season due to a long-term knee injury.

Maboe has already missed the start of the season, and Sundowns doctor Carl Tabane has confirmed that the utility player did his surgery about two weeks ago.

And for Maboe to return to action, it could take between six and nine months, meaning he could be out for the entire season.

“Lebo sustained quite a complex knee injury at the beginning of August. He is currently four week post injury and exactly 11 days post surgery,” Tabane told the Sundowns media team.

“We are looking at a rehab process of about six to nine months, but it’s not the first time we are treating such an injury,” he said.

“With the medical team that we have, we are quite confident that we might shorten it and he might come back a little bit early,” added Tabane.

Tabane further revealed that while Maboe’s injury might be career threatening, the player is highly motivated and eager to do rehabilitation.

“Obviously, these are the types of injuries that you might think is a career ending injury, but he is a highly motivated individual and we actually started the rehab before the surgery and he was quite keen to do that. He read about the subject and knew exactly what’s going on,” added Tabane.
