Sundowns to send South American star out on loan to PSL rivals?

Mamelodi Sundowns are exploring their options with ‘expensive’ South American star Erwin Saavedra set for an abrupt exit!

Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly run out of patience with one of their South American stars.

27-year-old Bolivian attacker Erwin Saavedra has struggled to hit the ground running at Chloorkop since his arrive in January 2022.

The Brazilians made a massive statement by landing the recognised South American star however he ultimately hasn’t lived up to the billing just yet.

Saavedra has been plagued by injuries since joining Mamelodi Sundowns, and when he has been fit, he hasn’t stamped his authority in their team.

He’s made just 10 appearances for the club, failing to register a single goal contribution or assist.

According to insiders, the club have run out of patience with their ‘expensive’ signing and are looking at either letting go of him, or loaning him out to a rival PSL club!

Mamelodi Sundowns run out of patience with Saavedra?

“Some people at the club want him to stay, such as the coach. But the management do not want to invest in a player who does not produce the goods because these foreign players don’t come cheap at all.” an insider told Citizen.

“It is not the club’s fault because he is always injured. Both parties are exploring options to pull the plug or loan him out to one of the other teams in the DStv Premiership.”

“We do not want to become familiar with losing,” – the Mamelodi Sundowns coach said as quoted by IOL.

“Sundowns are the gold standard of South African club football. We are by far the best team in the country.

“We find ourselves in a moment of transition and though seemingly seamless and easy on the eye.

“The make-up of the squad is that they have less than 200 Champions League appearances together.”
