Mamelodi Sundowns latest: Breaking down Shalulile’s 30 goals this season

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile had a remarkable 2021-22 season where he scored a whopping 30 goals across all competitions.

Shalulile netted his 30th goal of the season as Sundowns beat Marumo Gallants 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday night.

In doing so, Shalulile became only the second player to score 30 goals in a single season in the PSL era after Collins Mbesuma (35) in the 2004-05 campaign.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SHALULILE AND MBESUMA

Interestingly, none of the 30 goals Shalulile scored for Sundowns this season were from the penalty spot while Mbesuma had nine presented to him.

Furthermore, Mbesuma had five trophies to fight for, meaning his chances of scoring more goals were higher compared to Shalulile who had just four trophies available to Sundowns this season.

Shalulile had two domestic Cup competitions (MTN8 and Nedbank Cup), the league and the CAF Champions League.
