Sundowns: Zungu responds on Jali competition

Bongani Zungu’s return to Mamelodi Sundowns has been a flop so far, but the 30-year-old feels Andile Jali has zero to do with it.

Mamelodi Sundowns star Bongani Zungu sounds annoyed. The midfielder has explained why he’s not competing with Andile Jali.

According to Zungu, being on the same team as Jali has never meant one or the other has to play in a match. 

Additionally, the Duduza-born player has given credit to Tebogo Mokoena’s work in the Sundowns midfielder as a regular starter.

“I don’t understand (why we can’t play together) because we played together at Bafana Bafana during coach Shakes Mshasba’s time,” said Zungu via the Citizen.

“But because of the depth at Sundowns, it is not just Andile I am competing with for the position. There’s Teboho who is doing well for the team, it is not about me and Andile.

“At the end of the day we all want to win and leave our mark and leave a legacy of Hlompho Kekana’s jersey number 8,” the former AmaTuks and Amiens star concluded.

In other news about top midfielders, the former Sundowns captain has offered great credit to Amakhosi’s starman Maart.

Following the now famous long-range goal in the Soweto derby last month, the master of such goals, Kekana has described what it means to take decisions like that.
