Mamelodi Sundowns set new PSL record with Kaizer Chiefs win

Mamelodi Sundowns continued to set more records with a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in a league match played at FNB Stadium on Saturday night.

Neo Maema scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute to ensure that all the points go to Chloorkop.

This was Sundowns’ 15th league win of the season, and they look home and dry, and course for a record-extending sixth consecutive league title.

Now, Sundowns made history as they have now won 12 consecutive league matches, setting a new PSL record since in 1996.

Previously, Sundowns had won 11 consecutive league matches, and this was in 2007 but they matched that record with last week’s victory over SuperSport United.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS COMPLETE FIRST EVER LEAGUE DOUBLE OVER KAIZER CHIEFS

The win also meant Masandawana have now completed their first ever league ‘double’ over Amakhosi in the PSL era.

Despite their dominance of the PSL since the professional era kicked off in the 1996/97 season, Sundowns had never previously completed a league double over Chiefs.

Even more incredibly, Amakhosi have managed the double over Masandawana in FOUR previous seasons.

Kaizer Chiefs completed the double over Mamelodi Sundowns in all of the following seasons: 2000/01, 2003/04, 2008/09 and 2011/12.
