According to sources close to the Brazilians, the 21-year-old wonderkid was spotted at OR Tambo Airport before being whisked away to an undisclosed hotel in Johannesburg.

Nassir is due to report for his first training session at Chloorkop this week.

“The Ethiopian player, Nassir is here in South Africa. He arrived in the country last night,” said a source according to Kickoff.

Abubeker Nassir had been linked to a number of clubs in South Africa apart from Masandawana.

Those sides included Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United and Baroka FC.

Nassir scored 23 goals in 29 matches in the Ethiopian League while playing for Ethiopia Coffee Sport Club last season which saw him walk away with the Player of the Season award.

Nassir is one of three more players Mamelodi Sundowns are looking to tie down before the January transfer window shuts.

They are also expected to finalise the signings of Edwin Saavedra and Teboho Mokoena in the coming days.

Mamelodi Sundowns are well on their way to a staggering fifth consecutive PSL title – and a 12th all-time in what is the 26th season since the PSL-era kicked off in the 1996/97 season.

At the break for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Mamelodi Sundowns lead the way on 44 points after 19 matches.

They are a yawning 14 points ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates with just 11 matches remaining.

Mamelodi Sundowns will next be in action in a Nedbank Cup Round of 32 clash away against Richards Bay on Friday, 4 February at 18:00.

Following that, Masandawana will be in action in a home CAF Champions League group match against Sudanese side Al-Hilal on Friday, 11 February.

Their next league assignment is scheduled for Wednesday, 16 February at home against Chippa United (17:00).
