This despite Amakhosi losing in their MTN8 quarter-final penalty shootout to the Brazilians on Sunday.

The score was deadlocked at 2-2 after extra-time with Mamelodi Sundowns winning the penalty shootout 2-1 to advance to the semi-finals.

In an interview with SuperSport after the match, Mngqithi credited Amakhosi counterpart Baxter for job well done despite his limited time in charge.

“I want to give credit to Stuart,” Mngqithi said.

“I think he organises his team very well. With the little he may have in terms of resources at time, I really believe he makes it very difficult for any team that plays against Chiefs.

“This game could easily have gone either way because on transition they were a problem. On set-pieces they were a problem. We must give credit to him. He’s a very good coach and I like him.

“It was our wish to go to the semi-finals and the boys fought very hard for it. We must give credit to them. They worked very hard.

“I was proud but more than anything else we still have another step to go. We must take it step by step. But it’s our wish, our desire that we can win this trophy and we are going all out for it,” Manqoba Mngqithi concluded.
