Chiefs have long been touted as keen admirers of Cape Town Spurs’ left sided centre back Rushwin Dortley, but Sundowns have now entered the fray.

Spurs seemed to confirm his departure

However, it does not seem like the Chiefs and Sundowns are the only clubs that are in for Dortley, with Spurs CEO Alexis Efstathiou had recently confirmed to Kick Off, that they were in discussions with a club abroad for the services of the lanky left sided centre-back.

“Yes, we’re busy with finalising the deal, We’ve got someone in Europe at the moment who is trying to finalise everything. t seems like the deal is happening, but until the cheque is in the bank we can’t say it’s done. I can’t reveal the name of the team for now, but it’s in Europe. Let’s keep it like this for now and see what happens. But the deal is not good as done until the money is in the bank, that’s how it goes.” Efstathiou said to the same publication.

Sundowns trying to lure Dortley

Even though it sounds as if the deal is almost completed between Spurs and the unnamed European team, it seems like there is one local club that is yet to give up hope on signing Dortley, and that is not Chiefs. Soccer-Laduma are now reporting that Ka Bo Yellow are keen to try and keep the player in the country, and what would add further fuel to this rumour, would be the current admission from the club’s co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi that they need a left-footed centre-back.

Reigning DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to have also thrown their name into the hat to land Dortley, with co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi recently reiterating the club’s desire to sign a left-footed centre back.” Wrote the publication.

It remains to be seen whether this will translate into a bid from Sundowns or if their interest would have come too late, with Dortley already convinced to go abroad.
