Mamelodi Sundowns legend makes decision on his future!

Mamelodi Sundowns legend and former captain Hlompho Kekana has made a decision on his future following his release on Thursday.

In an interview with Metro FM, Kekana confirmed that he doesn’t intend to retire from professional football just yet as he wants to play for a few more years.

Sundowns had given Kekana an option to retire and be hired in a different capacity within the club as part of keeping him in Tshwane.

However, the 36-year-old midfielder feels he still has a few years left in him, adding that he would consider offers now that he’s got his clearance from Sundowns.

“At the moment, what I know is, I have my clearance from Mamelodi Sundowns. So, Hlompho Kekana is just free,” said Kekana on Metro FM.

“I am a free agent. So, yeah, sure if somebody can call me and say, ‘Hlompho would you come and play football?’

“Like I said, today is just that moment that I have to let it sink in and really understand that from today, l will be called a former Mamelodi Sundowns player,” he said.

Furthermore, Kekana believes age is just a number, saying players such as the late Shoes Moshoeu played until his late 30s, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic (40) and Cristiano Ronaldo (36) are still active.

“My role model was Shoes Moshoeu, and I saw Shoes playing at the age of 32, and that was my dream to make sure that I do that,” continued Kekana.

“I saw Zlatan who’s still playing. How old is Zlatan? 40?” he asked.

“Cristiano Ronaldo, who everybody celebrates at my age. So, if he can do that at that level, what can stop Hlompho from doing that?

“So, it’s just a mindset for me, I believe. My mindset has always been this player who wants to break every boundary possible, and I did that in my football career to this far, and I still believe I can,” concluded Kekana.

Chippa United are already reported to be very keen on acquiring the services of Kekana although the former Sundowns skipper can only join them in the January transfer window.
