Mamelodi Sundowns ‘killed’ by early goal, concedes Mosimane

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane admitted he was not happy with the outcome of Friday night’s fixture against Highlands Park.

The reigning league champions were held to a second consecutive draw at Dobsonville Stadium, where two teams were tied at 1-1.

This was after an early strike from Peter Shalulile pinned the Tshwane giants back inside the first six minutes, before Sphelele Mkhulise responded with a goal of his own just moments from the break.

Their bid to pull clear proved futile, as the Lions of the North held firm throughout the second half.

Speaking to Supersport after the game, Mosimane said he was not happy with how things panned out.

“We were just killed by that early goal. I think first-half we played, after the goal we played, we moved the ball around but in the latter stages of the game we didn’t play enough,” he said.

“It’s like the latter stages, the last 15 minutes against [Orlando] Pirates. We didn’t play enough, we could have played a little bit more you know. Too much anxiety to try and score.”

The former Bafana mentor also questioned the legality of the goal which saw his side trailing in the opening stages of the fixture.

 “It looked like there was a hand that helped Shalulile to bring the ball forward to score, it looked like, I don’t know,” he said.

“There’s too many hands in Dobsonville. There was another hand against Pirates, there was a hand [again] tonight. My opinion and if it’s not there I’m happy to be wrong.”

The result meant that Sundowns failed to make a notable dent on the deficit between themselves and log leaders, Kaizer Chiefs.

With both teams tied in terms of number of fixtures played, the Brazilians are three points behind the Soweto giants, who face Polokwane City on Saturday afternoon.
