Sundowns ‘keeper SNUBBED for Goalkeeper of the Season award

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango has been overlooked for this year’s DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season award.

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango has been overlooked for this year’s DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season award.

And that’s because he featured less for the champions this season, making just 16 league appearances throughout the season.

In his 16 appearances for the Sundowns, Onyango had an impressive record of 11 cleeansheets and six goals conceded.

WHO ARE THE THREE NOMINEES FOR THE GOALKEEPER OF THE SEASON AWARD?

The league has opted for arguably three underrated goalkeepers in Veli Mothwa of AmaZulu, Cape Town City’s Hugo Marques and Toaster Nsabata of Sekhukhune United.

Mothwa and Marques have both been impressive in terms of the number of clean sheets for AmaZulu and Cape Town City respectively so far this season.

Mothwa kept 14 clean sheets in 26 matches while conceding just 18 goals. Marques, on the other hand, has kept 15 clean sheets while conceding 22 goals in 29 matches.

Lastly, Nsabatha has 11 clean sheets under his belt in 24 league appearances for Sekhukhune United – he has conceded 18 goals.
